Donald Owen Manning, age 78, died suddenly on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Don was a native of Arlington, Virginia, born in 1945 to the late Nan Owen Manning and John Lawrence Manning. He was an alumnus of Washington-Lee High School (Class of 1962), Duke University (Class of 1966), and the University of Virginia Law School (Class of 1969).
In 1988, Don co-founded MMBB (then Manning & Murray), where he helped thousands of clients with estate planning and estate administration. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1985.
Don’s community activities included serving as a past president of the Arlington Community Foundation, and he was the founder and chairperson of the Endowment Fund at Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Arlington.
Don was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 and received a Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam with the First Brigade of the Fifth Infantry.
He was a lifelong baseball lover – player, coach, and Nats and Senators fan.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Angela Dailey Manning; his sons, Andrew Dailey Manning and Michael Owen Manning (fellow Principal at MMBB); Michael’s wife, Jessica Rackley; his beloved grandchildren, Nora Rackley Manning and Theodore Owen Manning; his brother, John Lawrence Manning, Jr., and his wife Diane Manning; and his sister, Nancy Manning Knight, and her husband, John Knight. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
